Waterman’s Tavern- Brielle, NJ

I really wanted to love Waterman’s Tavern. A lot of the steakhouses at the Jersey Shore are a fail, and I had high hopes for this new steakhouse. Waterman’s Tavern is owned by the same owners as Waypoint 622. This was a little concerning for me because even though I enjoy Waypoint 622, they barely make it with their operations for a casual restaurant. They’re location is what really saves them. However, I wiped these thoughts from my mind. Let me tell you all the fails: we were carded after they started opening our $100+ wine. Who does that at a fine dining establishment? I am flattered I look that young, but come on. Also, the waitress proceeded to pour our wine glasses almost to the rim which is unacceptable especially when one, you pride yourself about your nice wines and wine cellar, and two, you’re supposed to be fine dining. Next, the filet mignon was cooked rare when we asked for it medium. You’re not even in the ballpark chef! Lucky for him that while we prefer medium steaks, we do eat them rare as well and did not complain. The appetizers were not hot; they were barely luke warm and for the shrimp and corn appetizer especially, that was unacceptable. Service was quick until the restaurant started filling up. Then, it fell off dramatically. Lastly, when going over the dessert menu, the waitress placed the menu upside down and on the cocktail drink side. Small things, but these things matter when you’re trying to create a fine dining establishment! The food at best was mediocre. The dessert was probably the best thing I ate. I am sad this place was a fail, but we will not be returning. Good luck Waterman’s Tavern!
